Secrets Secrets!

Want to hear a secret?

Promise you won’t tell?

Okay, here it goes...

Sometimes, alright, let’s be honest, most of the time, the pretty gems at our store, don’t start out that way. These "ramshackled treasures" sometimes…well, (honesty again) most of the time are:

                                   just.

                                       plain.

                                             ugly.

Years of battered, dogeared love have made them this way. But, underneath their scratched and tarnished surfaces remains diamonds-in-the-rough waiting to be made beautiful once more.

It’s not a question of pixie dust, or even Pinterest (which, of course, is the closest thing we’ll ever get to pixie dust this side of heaven, or is that Godiva Chocolate? This is up for debate).

Eh-hem. Anyway, that's a topic for another day...

I think, what makes Ramshackled Treasures so unique is that we all share a deep appreciation for restoring broken and the ugly things. When we exhume those diamonds-in-the-rough, we appreciate what they were as well as what they could be.

Take this 1960’s accent chair, for example, in all of its stained glory. Sure, it's a bit of an eyesore at the moment, but with a little refurbishing and new upholstery it can be returned to the classic mid century gem that it is.

But before we blaze ahead on a holy crusade to make it pretty again, let's take a trip down memory lane and imagine for a moment...Who made this chair? Who was its first owner? Was he/she old or young? How many children sat reading stories in this chair? Or sat pouting in a corner during a timeout?

It sparks so much curiosity and wonderment. Not only do we get to wonder at the story behind a treasure, but we get to add to its story when we help it "live again".

All of the furniture that fills our store has had a browbeaten existence until one of our artists discover it and decide to give it new life once again. Perhaps, that's what makes these antiques true treasures. Not only are they beautiful, but they are a piece of history.

So, now you know our secret! This is why we love all things "ramshackled" and why we call them "treasures"!

Can you share any stories about the antiques in your home? Comment below! We’d love to hear from you!
